Mercedes-Benz has revealed its most spectacular electric SUV yet
Mercedes-Benz has published a teaser of the new electric GLC without disguise. Judging by the image, we are expecting a compact SUV with a radically designed grille, inspired by classic models of the brand, but reinterpreted in a futuristic way. The full debut of the model will take place in September at the Munich Motor Show (IAA Mobility 2025).
Here's What We Know
Despite the fact that electric cars do not need as intensive cooling as cars with internal combustion engines, the electric GLC (actually the successor to the EQC) will receive one of the most expressive grilles in the history of the brand. The wide frame with chrome trim and a lattice-patterned glass insert contrasts sharply with the minimalist design of the current EQE and EQS models.
Buyers will have to pay extra for maximum visual impact - the option package includes 942 luminous dots, animation when the driver approaches, illumination of the emblem with a three-ray star and the entire panel around it.
Such bold looks are not just a design experiment. The head of Mercedes design department Gordon Wagener emphasised that this is a new visual code of the brand. And according to Mercedes CEO Ola Källenius, the colourful style will help the company stand out from the multitude of Chinese carmakers that are increasingly entering the global market.
First to go on sale will be the GLC 400 4Matic version with EQ technology. Full specifications have not yet been disclosed, but it is already known that the crossover will support fast charging with a capacity of over 320 kW. This will allow to top up the range of approximately 260 kilometres in 10 minutes. The model is based on an 800-volt architecture that is backwards compatible with 400-volt charging stations.
The new GLC will not only be the successor to the EQC, but also the visual flagship of the entire Mercedes-EQ range, setting the style for future models. Judging by the teaser and the first statements, Mercedes intends to reclaim the image of the "dream car" - now in the electrified era.
