VW revealed a spectacular electric car that was never created in metal
Volkswagen has unveiled an electric sports car concept designed back in 2017, but has yet to be shown to the public. The sketch was revealed by VW Design Division representative Stepan Rehak as part of the "Blast from the Past" series of publications.
Here's What We Know
According to Rehak, the concept was created as a possible addition to the ID. line of electric cars, and its style is inspired by the works of legendary car designer Giorgetto Giugiaro: clean surfaces, clear proportions and bold graphics. The model was expected to be based on the then-new MEB platform for battery cars.
The image shows a coupé with a retro-futuristic exterior. The front part refers to the VW SP2 sports car, produced in Brazil in 1972: narrow headlights, a small VW emblem, angular body shapes, rounded wheel arches. In profile - sporty glazing, aerodynamic discs, recessed door handles and compact mirrors. The image is completed by a thin LED strip across the entire width of the stern.

The SP2 referred to by the designer was an underpowered but charismatic car: the 1.7-litre engine developed 65 hp and 121 N-m, and acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h took about 15 seconds. A new interpretation of this classic could have been a spectacular addition to the ID. range, but, apparently, the project never went further than a sketch.
