Buick has unexpectedly revealed a concept version of a luxury electric sedan called Electra Orbit - exclusively for the Chinese market. The novelty with a long body, streamlined silhouette and expressive forms is clearly inspired by the legendary Citroën DS, but in a futuristic reading.

Here's What We Know

Yes, this is the same Buick that is known in the US mainly as a maker of understated crossovers. However, in China, the brand is present in the premium segment. It is here that the brand develops the Electra sub-brand, under which this concept is presented.

Electra Orbit is not just a prototype, but a look into the future of Buick's flagship models. The elongated body with a streamlined profile from a sharp nose to a pointed stern is more reminiscent of a GT-class concept coupé than a sedan. The design clearly references the space race aesthetic of the 1950s and echoes the iconic Citroën DS of those years.

The long wheelbase emphasises the focus on customers who prefer to drive with a driver. At the rear, there is a striking tail section. The front part is decorated with six LED elements and illuminated logo, similar brand accents are on the wings, hubs and stern.

The futuristic interior features four individual seats separated by a centre tunnel. The front fascia is a continuous pillar-to-pillar digital display, while the centre console houses a joystick sphere and a holographic globe under the windscreen.

Technical details are not yet available. All that is known is that the Electra Orbit is an electric car, although the Electra sub-brand also includes hybrid models.

Although the Electra Orbit is only a concept, certain design elements may well appear on Buick's production models for China. Alas, for the rest of the world, including the U.S., such a car will remain unavailable for the foreseeable future.
