DJI has officially unveiled the Romo series of robotic vacuum cleaners, the company's first step into the robot vacuum cleaner market and into the homes of ordinary households. The previous leaks were partially justified, as the company announced not two, but three models at once: Romo S, Romo A, and Romo P.

Technical specifications

DJI has developed a computer vision system that includes two fisheye lenses + three wide-angle LiDAR sensors - the system is able to recognise even obstacles as thin as 2 mm, such as wires. The system can work even in low-light conditions - at dusk or far under the bed.

With a suction power of 25,000 Pa, the dual anti-tangle roller is designed specifically to reduce the possibility of hair and wool getting caught. It has two flexible brushes on the sides to sweep even the most hard-to-reach areas around walls or furniture legs, as well as in corners.

The vacuum cleaner is equipped with a 164 ml tank and a 260 ml dust bin. The vacuum cleaner has four modes of operation: vacuum + mop, vacuum only, mop only and vacuum first then mop.

The 5,000 mAh battery provides up to 3 hours of vacuuming time and a full charge in 2.5 hours (55W fast charge). The vacuum cleaner's video cameras can function as a video surveillance system through the DJI app. The vacuum cleaner can be controlled by a voice assistant. It also features intelligent carpet recognition with automatic mode change.

Romo S - the simplest version in a white case will cost from $654
Romo A - has a translucent cover and some additional navigation functions, price from $752
Romo P - the most advanced version in a fully transparent docking station and vacuum cleaner cover, treats dust bags with ultraviolet radiation, deodorises water for floor cleaning and has containers for disinfectant solutions. The price starts at $947.

The sales start on 6 August in China, with global availability expected later this year (date not yet announced).

DJI has proven itself in the market of drones and action cameras. The company's entry into the smart home appliances market is perceived positively by many - it is expected that the company will take market analysis seriously and bring its drone expertise in orientation and terrain mapping. There is every reason to believe this - according to previous rumours, the company has been working on the robot vacuum cleaner for four years, gaining experience and perfecting the device

I would also like to remind you that the company has recently presented a new type of camera - DJI 360.
