The iconic 90s shooters Heretic and Hexen, based on the Doom engine and emblematic of dark fantasy, have made a sudden and welcome return in the form of remasters from Nightdive Studios.

Released in collaboration with id Software and Bethesda, the updated versions of the games offer players a nostalgic, yet completely new experience: improved graphics in resolutions up to 4K, reworked sound, a modern control system, and gamepad and achievement support. All of this is within Nightdive's proprietary KEX Engine technology.

What's new in the remasters:

  • 4K and 120 FPS support
  • Full compatibility with modern OS and gamepads (Steam Controller is not supported)
  • Improved textures, lighting and interface
  • All original campaigns and add-ons included
  • Online and local co-op
Heretic and Hexen were among the first games to mix magic and dark fantasy with first-person shooter mechanics. Now new and old players alike have the chance to relive those adventures all over again - on modern platforms.

Remastered is available now on Steam, GOG, Epic Games Store, and on PlayStation, Xbox, and Nintendo Switch.

Important Note: If you already own the digital versions of Heretic: Shadow of the Serpent Riders, Hexen: Beyond Heretic and/or Hexen: Deathkings of the Dark Citadel on Steam, Microsoft Store / Xbox for Windows or on GOG, you will automatically receive a free upgrade to the enhanced Heretic + Hexen collection. Your original versions will remain available for download on the same platforms.
