China's Ministry of Industry and Information Technology (MIIT) has published certification data for new electric car models that are just getting ready to enter the local market. Among them were the Tesla Model 3+ sedan and a six-seat version of the Tesla Model Y crossover - Model Y L.

Here's What We Know

The Model 3+ sedan has a single motor on the rear axle and a lithium-ion battery manufactured by LG Energy Solution. The battery weighs 448kg and has an energy density of 175Wh/kg. The official range is up to 830 kilometres in the China Light-Duty Vehicle Test Cycle (CLTC), known for its optimism. Even so, this is the longest-range version of the model. The current leader in terms of range in China is the Model 3 Long Range All-Wheel Drive, which can travel up to 753 kilometres on the CLTC.

The documents also reveal that the peak engine power of this new version of the Model 3 reaches 225 kW. This is a significant increase over the 194 kW engine installed in the current base version of the Model 3. The specified weight of the vehicle is 1,760kg.

The certification documents also detail a new version of the Model Y, dubbed the Model Y L. Its most interesting feature is the six-seat interior configuration. This crossover with two engines and all-wheel drive promises a range of up to 751 kilometres on the cycle. It is equipped with an 82 kWh battery pack, also from LG Energy Solution.

The powertrain of the Model Y L utilises a 142 kW motor for the front wheels and 198 kW for the rear wheels. The battery pack for this larger electric vehicle weighs 465kg and has an energy density of 176Wh/kg. Tesla previously announced that a six-seat version of the Model Y will be launched in China this autumn.

Tesla currently sells three versions of the Model 3 sedan in China. The base model with rear-wheel drive costs from 235,500 yuan ($32,790 or €27,990), the Long Range AWD from 285,500 yuan ($39,750 or €33,930) and the Performance AWD from 339,500 yuan ($47,300 or €40,400). The five-seat Model Y is available in a rear-wheel drive version priced from 263,500 yuan ($36,700 or 31,300 euros) and an all-wheel drive version with extended range priced from 313,500 yuan ($43,650 or 37,260 euros).
