If CarPlay or Android Auto consistently loses connection on the same stretch of road, it may not be the cable, the smartphone or even your car that's to blame. The suspect is invisible radio interference.

Here's What We Know

Axios report told about a strange phenomenon in Boston: in certain points of the city CarPlay and Android Auto massively lose connection. And it's not a glitch of a particular car model or phone - everyone loses connection.

The point is that CarPlay does not work autonomously. It does not store GPS-navigation in the car, but directly connects to iPhone via Bluetooth or Wi-Fi, transmitting the picture and data. If this wireless link is interrupted, navigation immediately drops.

Experts believe that the cause may be powerful sources of radio signals in the 2.4 GHz band - from microwave points and transmitting antennas to "pirate" transmitters. In Boston, for example, large urban repeaters are suspected, creating localised "dead zones".

Why it matters

If your connection is dropping in the same places, you're probably driving through an invisible cloud of radio interference. It's almost impossible to fix it - unless you change your route. But at least now it's clear you don't have to waste time diagnosing your phone or reaching for a new cable.
