A Reddit user has examined the APK file of the Samsung Messages application version 16.1.02.2 and found lines of code that clearly indicate a "Satellite Mode". This mode will only allow sending SMS messages, without support for media (photos, videos) and RCS chat.

What it means:

Although Google requires you to use Google Messages by default, Samsung has not stopped developing its own messaging app. You can choose to use it as your primary text messaging app if you want. It has a more user-friendly design and supports some additional features (for example, displaying who's birthday it is, or integration with Samsung's Now Brief).

Satellite communication technology is now being developed that allows you to send a message in an emergency situation when there is no mobile coverage. Without waiting for Google to implement all the functionality, Samsung is already working on its own implementation.

Context.

A number of US operators (Verizon, Xfinity Mobile, Spectrum Mobile, T-Mobile) currently offer Satellite Texting via the Skylo, T-Satellite and other satellite networks. This functionality allows SMS messaging in remote locations where there is no mobile coverage.
