In January 2024 there was a rumour that BioWare was developing a remake of the first part of Dragon Age, which was released in 2007 and remains one of the best games of its genre, but is technically outdated.

At the time, gamers were sceptical about this information, as the studio was busy developing Dragon Age: The Veilguard and the new Mass Effect, and the source did not inspire confidence. Finally, there was information from a person who is well acquainted with the work and plans of the Canadian studio.

Here's What We Know

Former executive producer, writer and creative director of BioWare Mark Darrah gave an interview on YouTube channel MrMattyPlays, in which he said that the studio has long offered publisher Electronic Arts to create a remake of Dragon Age Origins or remasters of the entire trilogy. The company has always refused, as such projects would require an unreasonable amount of resources and far from the fact that they would pay off.

EA released Dead Space remake and Mass Effect remasters, but according to Darrah the publisher is sceptical about the idea of updating old games and relies on new projects.

That's why a Dragon Age re-release has little chance of release, especially after the spectacular failure of Dragon Age: The Veilguard.
