Almost a quarter-century ago, the Acura RSX replaced the Integra and was a more premium version of the Honda Civic. Now the model returns in a completely different image - in the form of an electric crossover with a sloping roof. The premiere of the RSX prototype was timed to coincide with Monterey Car Week, and it precedes the production novelty.

Here's What We Know

Unlike the older ZDX electric crossover, which is built on GM's Ultium platform, the RSX is designed from the ground up. It will be the first production model on Honda's own electric vehicle platform, which debuted with the 0 Series concepts. Production will start at the same plant in Marysville, Ohio, USA, where the petrol-powered Integra is assembled.

Despite the status of a prototype, usually such Honda cars are close to production cars, so the appearance of the RSX is unlikely to change much. It is not known only whether yellow colour will be included in the palette.

The production RSX will get dual-motor all-wheel drive, double wishbone front suspension and Brembo brakes. The prototype has 21-inch wheels, and the wide rear dodger is said to be inspired by the second-generation NSX, according to Acura.

In the cabin, you can expect a new ASIMO OS multimedia system named after Honda's legendary robot. This is a "software-defined" car: the OS adapts to the driver's habits, and updates will come "over the air". The crossover will also get a Tesla NACS connector and a Vehicle-to-Load function to power external devices.

Specifications, including power, battery capacity, range and price, the company has not yet disclosed, but the RSX will be smaller and probably cheaper than the ZDX. Judging by Honda's pace, we won't have to wait long for the production version.
