250 hours of battery life: HyperX updates headset and microphone lineup
HP-owned HyperX has unveiled a whole line of new devices for gamers and streamers. But the main focus, of course, is on the Cloud Alpha 2, a $300 wireless headset that set a new record for battery life.
Here's What We Know
The Cloud Alpha 2 features large 53mm dual-camera drivers and operates in the 2.4GHz band. The main thing, however, is the battery: up to 250 hours on a single charge. That's over ten days of uninterrupted gaming. If you use Bluetooth simultaneously with wireless connectivity, the autonomy is reduced by about half, but even so it remains out of reach of most competitors.
It comes with an RGB control station with a large rotary volume control and six customisable buttons. According to HyperX, this is the industry's first reprogrammable RGB base for a gaming headset.
In addition to the flagship, the company showed off more affordable models:
- Cloud Flight 2 for $130 (PlayStation/PC) and $140 (Xbox) with RGB lighting on the cups, on sale from October.
- Two microphones: the SoloCast 2 ($60), a compact option for beginners, and the FlipCast ($230), a professional USB and XLR solution similar to the Shure MV7 but with RGB lighting.
