ZTE has unveiled a new U30 Pro 5G pocket router in China that will come in handy during the coming World War III. At least for some time. The device has a touchscreen OLED display, a 5000 mAh battery, and can distribute the network to 20 gadgets at once. Sales have already started - the price starts at $65.

Technical Characteristics

  • 1.38″ colour touchscreen for quick settings and status display
  • 5G Sub-6 GHz (bands n1, n3, n5, n8, n28, n41 and n78), LTE (FDD and TDD bands)
  • Wi-Fi 6 (2.4/5 GHz), up to 500 Mbit/s, up to 20 connected devices
  • 9 antennas, 4×4 MIMO, Uplink speed up to 1200 Mbps
  • 5000 mAh battery, up to 12 hours of operation, 18 W charging via USB-C
  • Support for eSIM, NFC for quick connection with Android devices
  • Samba server for file sharing on the local network
  • Weight 171 g, dimensions 149 × 70 × 13 mm

Why it's interesting

The U30 Pro 5G is an example of how even an ordinary mobile router can be "upgraded". It looks like a hybrid of a modem and a power bank, and eSIM and NFC support adds convenience where other "boxes" still require you to go into the settings. For travellers or those who work on the go, this pocket Wi-Fi can be a real lifesaver.
