Anker has introduced the Soundcore Sleep A30, a new wireless headphone designed specifically for sleep. Their main feature is active noise cancellation (ANC), which works in conjunction with a snore detection algorithm. The price of the question is $230.

Here's What We Know

According to Anker, Sleep A30 can block the most annoying sounds: snoring, barking dogs, hum of machinery and street noise. Interestingly, the sounds are analysed not only through the headphones themselves, but also through the microphone in the charging case. If the device "hears" snoring, it adjusts the ANC to it.

Another algorithm - Ear Canal Adaptation - adjusts noise cancellation to the shape of the user's ear. Additionally, the Sleep A30 can play binaural frequencies, which Anker says synchronise brainwaves and help you relax. Control of all modes is available in the proprietary Soundcore app, where you can set alarms and sleep reminders.

Comfort and fit

To keep the headphones from getting in the way when you sleep, the engineers made a slim, silicone-coated case with shortened earpieces. To do this, Anker says, they built 3D models of "thousands of ear canals". The result is a compact and lightweight (3g) headphone that should fit comfortably, even if a person sleeps on their side or turns frequently.

Context

The sleep headphone market remains a niche market. Bose Sleepbuds and Kokoon Nightbuds had their fans, but lacked smart solutions like anti-snoring algorithms. Anker decided to fill that gap. Initial reviews are positive: users praise the comfort and quality of sleep with Sleep A30, although some note that full noise cancellation may not be safe - in case of an alarm or emergency, you may simply not hear the signal.
