Infiniti is preparing a sports sedan with a manual instead of an electric car
Infiniti has fallen on hard times, with sales in America down from the past decade and uncertainty in the industry. But the Japanese brand has a plan to revitalise the brand and it's sure to please fans of internal combustion engines.
Here's What We Know
According to Automotive News, Infiniti is developing a second-generation Q50 sedan for the US market. The model will be built on the platform of the Japanese Nissan Skyline and will receive a 3.0-litre biturbo V6 engine from Nissan Z. In the sports coupe, this engine develops 400 hp, but insiders claim that for the Q50, the output could exceed 450 hp. The sedan will be rear-wheel drive and will even get a six-speed "mechanics", which is a great rarity nowadays.
In addition, a "charged" version of the Q50 Red Sport is being considered. According to Infiniti Americas Vice President Tiago Castro, the updated Q50 will be "bold and unexpected".
Production of the first-generation Q50 ended after the 2024 model year, and the Q60 coupe rolled off the assembly line back in 2022. As a result, only crossovers and SUVs remained in the Infiniti lineup. Initially it was planned that Q50 will be replaced by an electric car, but due to changes in market conditions, the company decided to bet on a new generation of petrol model.
The premiere is expected in the second half of 2027. At a closed meeting with dealers in Las Vegas, Infiniti showed a teaser of the sedan with the designation Q50S. The prototype is rumoured to get narrow headlights and round Skyline-style taillights. A source described the car as "emotional" and "impractical." Castro added that the project is "a chance to get back to the brand's roots."
