BYD today announced that its Yangwang U9 test car has reached a top speed of 472.41 kilometres per hour. This is the best result among all Chinese-made electric vehicles and the

Here's What We Know

The Yangwang U9 has proven that it can be very fast. But still falls short of the absolute world record among electric cars - 549.4 km/h. This achievement was set on 19 September 2016 by the Venturi Buckeye Bullet 3 experimental car built by a student team from Ohio State University specifically for the record. On the other hand, the Bullet 3 design looks more like a rocket than a car. The U9 looks like a familiar sports car and has been in production since August 2024. In the last year, a total of 149 copies have been delivered.

Thus Yangwang U9 entered the list of the fastest hypercars on the planet. For example, Koenigsegg Jesko Absolut can accelerate up to 531 km/h, Bugatti Chiron Super Sport - up to 490 km/h, and SSC Tuatara - up to 474.8 km/h. All the models mentioned have internal combustion engines and cost millions of dollars. The U9 is all-electric and is priced at 1.68 million yuan ($232,500).
