French studio Virtuos is gaining more and more notoriety.

A few months apart, the company released highly appreciated re-releases of two cult games - The Elder Scrolls 4: Oblivion Remastered and Metal Gear Solid Δ: Snake Eater (remake). Both games turned out to be high quality and gave modern gamers an up-to-date look at 20-year-old classics.

Despite the massive wave of layoffs that began at Virtuos in July, the studio has big plans for the future.

Here's What We Know

Virtuos head Gilles Langourieux gave an interview to IGN in which he revealed some interesting details about the studio's work, but we'll focus on two points.

Firstly, it is Virtuos that has the idea to create Oblivion remaster. The company approached the author of the original game and Bethesda creative director Todd Howard with the proposal and to demonstrate the seriousness of their intentions prepared a vertical slice with a demonstration of how TES IV could look like on Unreal Engine 5. It was important that game systems and mechanics were calculated by the original engine, while graphics and visual effects were realised on technology from Epic Games.

About 400 employees worked on the Oblivion remaster and it should be noted that they did an excellent job.

The second important thesis concerns the future of Virtuos. Despite all the difficulties, the studio continues to work and is already working on several major remasters comparable to Oblivion Remastered and MGS Δ. Gilles Langurier did not reveal which games will next receive quality re-releases, but given the successful collaboration with Bethesda, the thought of Fallout 3 comes to mind, especially since mention of such a remaster has long Internal Microsoft documents revealed mention of the development of a new DOOM instalment, Dishonored 3, Fallout 3 and Oblivion remasters, and that's not the whole list of Bethesda projects!.
