In a recent report by analyst Ming-Chi Kuo, it was revealed that Apple unexpectedly raised its forecast for the production of the foldable iPhone - even before the device itself was officially released. This means that the company is seriously betting on the folding device and is preparing for the biggest launch of a new product in recent years.

What is predicted:

  • 2026: 8-10 million units (previously expected 6-8 million)
  • 2027: 20-25 million (previously - 10-15 million)

Why It Matters

Apple has long avoided the release of foldable smartphones. At a time when the company has reached stable sales figures, and neither Mini nor Max versions have significantly expanded Apple's audience (as required by investors), its sphere of interest has nevertheless touched the foldable smartphone market. This niche will significantly improve the company's financial performance, as folding smartphones are only available in the most expensive segment. Even if Apple loses some of its iPhone Pro sales because of this, the foldable smartphone has higher margins.

The iPhone Fold is expected to become part of the iPhone 18 series in 2026. Apple expects that users are ready for foldable devices. The company is likely to try to "reinvent" the form factor by introducing new use cases.
