Tesla recently unveiled the updated Model Y Performance. As it turns out, the fastest version of the crossover is now equipped with launch control from the factory.

Here's What We Know

Like the Model 3 Performance sedan, the crossover has two electric motors and all-wheel drive. Acceleration from the ground to 60 mph (96 km/h) takes 3.3 seconds and to 100 km/h takes 3.5 seconds.

Although Tesla's official announcement didn't mention launch control, photos published on Reddit from the showroom showed the instructions on the screen in the car and there, among other things, is Launch Mode. This is the same launch control, only in Tesla terminology.

To activate launch control, the driver needs to apply the brake with the left foot and at the same time fully depress the throttle with the right. The message "Launch Mode enabled" will appear on the display, and then when the brake is released, the car starts with maximum efficiency. Tesla warns that the mode is intended for tracks and pavements with good traction.

For now, Launch Mode is only available on the Model Y Performance. But given that the company regularly expands functionality through over-the-air updates, it's possible that the system will later appear on the Model 3 Performance as well.
