This day has come! Instagram has released a full-fledged iPad app
Since Instagram's launch in October 2010, it has never had a native iPad app, despite the fact that the first iPad was released at the beginning of that year. Since then, a new generation of people has been born, Instagram itself has been bought out by Facebook, but tablets could use either the web version or the non-adapted version for iPhone. In response to numerous requests from users and journalists, the service's management has repeatedly bolted that there are no plans to release a tablet version of the app for any reason, it's just not a priority. They also never said what the team was doing with this higher priority all this time.
When hope had long since faded, on 3 September 2025, Meta unexpectedly and without warning released a tablet version of the app, ending the years-long ordeal of Apple tablet users. The reasons for this step are not reported, so we can only make assumptions. It is clear that the reason must be good. Perhaps it happened because some retrograde died on Instagram, or it is timed to coincide with Sweden's transition to right-hand drive - we cannot say for sure. In this regard, we would only like to silently remember all those who did not live to see this day.
In general, the app has all the features of the iOS version, although there are differences. When users open the app, they are immediately taken to the Reels section. From this, we can conclude the reasons for such a fundamental change in the company's position. It's clear that the company didn't suddenly see the light and start listening to its users, but simply got a kick in the arse from investors who saw that users were moving to the less prim TikTok in droves. even the chronological feed (Latest) was brought in. Users can customise the order of the tabs to see the most important things first. If you still don't believe in all sorts of signs before the end of the world, then you should probably repent.
