A cool horror game, but not a perfect game - Cronos: The New Dawn gets high marks, but falls short of Silent Hill 2 Remake
The 5th of September will see the release of Cronos: The New Dawn - an ambitious horror game from Polish studio Bloober Team, which released the excellent Silent Hill 2 remake in 2024, which received the highest marks.
No less impressive results were expected from the new game, but the first critics' evaluations suggest that Cronos is somewhat inferior to the updated Japanese classic.
Here's What We Know
Experts highly appreciated Cronos: The New Dawn and believe that it is a great horror and one of the best Bloober Team games, but it will definitely not be among the best representatives of its genre.
At the time of writing, Cronos' scores are as follows:
- Opencritic - 78 points with 76% of recommendations;
- Metacritic - 76/79 points depending on the platform.
The undoubted pluses of Cronos: The New Dawn are excellent production, interesting story, unexpected setting (post-apocalyptic Poland of the 80s), various puzzles, non-standard enemies and atmospheric soundtrack.
The main disadvantage of the game is not the best combat system and too many enemies, fights with which are too long and distract from the tense and exciting narrative. At the same time boss fights turned out to be memorable and unpredictable.
Gamers will be able to experience Cronos: The New Dawn in person on 5 September on PC, PlayStation 5, Xbox Series and Nintendo Switch 2.
