It's official: Game of Thrones star Sophie Turner will play the lead role in Tomb Raider - filming will begin in mid-January 2026

Work on the series based on the franchise Tomb Raider moved from the dead point: the film division of Amazon has set a date for the start of work and confirmed the Media: "Game of Thrones" star Sophie Turner may play the role of Lara Croft in Amazon's Tomb Raider series.

Here's What We Know

Amazon MGM Studios has officially announced that Sophie Turner, star of Game of Thrones and X-Men: Apocalypse, will play the role of Lara Croft.

Jonathan Van Tulleken, the director of the highly acclaimed Shōgun, is set to direct the series, with Phoebe Waller-Bridge (Killing Eve, Fleabag) writing the screenplay.

Sophie Turner commented on getting the role this way:

I am immensely excited about the opportunity to play Lara Croft. She's an iconic character who means so much to audiences, so I'm going to give it my best shot. It's not an easy task, as Angelina Jolie and Alicia Vikander and their Incredible acting have done it before me. But with Phoebe at the helm, Lara and I are in good hands.

Shooting of the series based on Tomb Raider will begin on 19 January 2026.

Nothing is yet known about the plot of the new version of Tomb Raider, as well as the timing of its premiere.
