Volvo has announced the start of production of the all-electric ES90 for European markets. The cars are assembled at the company's plant in Chengdu, China.

Here's What We Know

Sales of the Volvo ES90 are expected to start "later this year". After the European debut, the electric model will also appear in a number of key countries in the Asia-Pacific region, although the company doesn't specify which ones.

The ES90 is positioned as a car for "all occasions" - combining the elegance of a sedan and the practicality of a liftback with the increased ground clearance typical of an SUV.

The Volvo ES90 is built on the SPA2 electric platform, which is also used by the EX90 SUV. The model will be available in three versions:

  • Single Motor (rear-wheel drive, 245bhp, 92kWh battery, 640km WLTP range)
  • Twin Motor (all-wheel drive, 442 hp, 92 kWh battery, 700 kilometres of range)
  • Twin Motor Performance (all-wheel drive, 670 hp, 92 kWh battery, 700 kilometres of range)

Thanks to its 800-volt architecture at 350 kW charging stations, the ES90 can charge up to 300 kilometres in just 10 minutes.
