The Dacia Duster and Bigster crossovers have received a new Hybrid-G 150 4×4 powertrain combining mild-hybrid technology with petrol and liquefied petroleum gas (LPG) capability. It has a driving range of up to 1,500 km and running costs are said to be reduced by 30 per cent compared to just petrol versions, according to the company.

Here's What We Know

At the heart of the system is the new 1.2 TCe (three-cylinder) turbo engine with 48-volt mild hybrid. It develops 138bhp and 230N-m. At the rear, there is an additional electric motor with 31 hp and 87 N-m of torque. In total, the unit produces up to 152bhp. - This is one of the most powerful modifications for both models.

The engine is mated to a six-speed dual-clutch transmission with paddles - a first for Dacia. The rear electric motor has its own two-speed gearbox, saving fuel by disengaging the drive. All-wheel drive works at speeds up to 140km/h and the driver has access to six modes: Auto, Eco, Snow, Mud/Sand, Lock and Hill Descent Control.

Energy is stored in a 48-volt battery with a capacity of 0.84 kWh, which is charged by regeneration. In the city, hybrids can travel up to 60 per cent of the time on electric power only.

The new versions of the Dacia Duster and Bigster have two 50-litre fuel tanks each - for petrol and LPG.

Along with the new engine, Dacia has offered updated interior trim and lumbar support adjustment for the Journey version of the Duster, as well as new black wheels for the Extreme version.

The Duster and Bigster Hybrid-G 150 4×4 will go on sale in Europe by the end of the year, with prices to be announced later. In addition, the entire Duster range will be updated by 2026, with Eco-G 120, mild-hybrid 140 and hybrid 155 versions, while the old 1.0 engines and less powerful hybrids will leave the range.
