The success of Hollow Knight: Silksong in numbers: over 5 million players, 3 million sales on Steam and absolute domination over all the top indie games of 2025
It's only been a few days Gamers are excited about Hollow Knight: Silksong!, but we can already say that the cute metroidvania about the turbulent life of the inhabitants of the underground world has become one of the most successful games of 2025.
It crashed the servers of Steam, PlayStation and Nintendo for several hours, while Valve's shop saw peak online play approaching 600k players.
Silksong's furore is a proven fact, but analysts from Alinea Insight have provided entertaining data that confirms the huge interest of gamers.
Here's What We Know
Based on their own calculations, the experts stated that in the first three days with Hollow Knight: Silksong was familiarised with 5 million people. Of this number, more than 3 million are the sales in Steam, which brought Team Cherry, consisting of three developers, more than $50 million.
1 million gamers got acquainted with the hardcore novelty through Game Pass subscription.
The PC version of Silksong was most actively purchased in the US and China, while gamers from North America (30 per cent), East Asia (14 per cent) and Western Europe (14 per cent) bought it on PlayStation.
Analysts of Alinea Insight also traced a clear pattern - Hollow Knight: Silksong is bought by fans of complex games. Almost half of those who bought the game in Steam have Elden Ring in their library, and more than a third have Dark Souls III and Sekiro. 78 per cent have played the original Hollow Knight, and on PlayStation that figure is 81 per cent.
Silksong is also the absolute leader among the most popular indie games of 2025. Thus interest in it is twice the combined success rate of such hits as Schedule I, Peak and R.E.P.O..
There is no doubt that this is only the beginning of the success story of Hollow Knight: Silksong and it will surprise many more times in the future.
Hollow Knight: Silksong is already available on PC (Steam, GOG), PlayStation, Switch and Xbox, including Game Pass.
