The electric Changan Deepal S05 more than doubled in price on its way from China to Germany
Another Chinese electric car, the Changan Deepal S05 crossover, has entered the European market. In Germany, prices start at €38,990, while in China the base version costs the equivalent of €14,300.
Here's What We Know
All versions of the Deepal S05 for Europe are fitted with a 68.8 kWh battery. The base RWD Pro version is powered by a single electric motor with 268bhp and 290Nm of torque. Acceleration from a standstill to 100 km/h takes 7.5 seconds, maximum speed is 180 km/h. The range is claimed at the level of 485 km on the WLTP cycle.
The mid-size RWD Max (from €41,990 in Germany) uses the same powertrain and retains the same range. At the top of the range is the AWD Max version with two electric motors (from €44,990). In this configuration, the crossover develops 429 hp and 502 N-m, accelerates to a hundred in 5.5 seconds, but the range is reduced to 445 km.
S05 exterior is unlikely to surprise with something unusual, but looks quite sporty - with narrow lighting and neat lines of the body. The interior, as in many Chinese electric cars, is designed in a laconic style, but is trimmed with leather. A 15.4-inch multimedia screen takes centre stage, and there are also two wireless smartphone chargers and a pair of cup holders.
Compared to the Tesla Model Y, which starts at €44,990 in Germany, the Changan Deepal S05 is noticeably cheaper. That said, it is significantly more expensive in Europe than in China, where prices start at 119,900 yuan - only about €14,300.
