Valve has released a fresh update to the Steam client, which will automatically download when you launch the service. It brings a host of visual and functional improvements, with one of the main ones being the expansion of game pages in the shop to better utilise space on larger monitors.
Key innovations:
- updated notifications: you can now customise which notifications are displayed and where;
- improved interface: redesigned chat, menus, fonts and colours - especially in the screenshot and achievement manager;
- new in-game overlay: now with a modern design and more customisation options;
- Notes feature: you can create notes with text formatting, image insertion and offline access. Multiple notes per game are supported;
- panel pinning: overlay elements can now be "pinned" on top of the game screen with adjustable transparency;
- updated controller configurator: now embedded in the overlay when a gamepad is connected;
- hardware acceleration for macOS and Linux;
- Valve has redesigned the client architecture to unify the code between Steam Desktop, Steam Deck, and Big Picture Mode. This should improve stability and simplify future development;
- fixed some bugs in Steam.
