Mercedes has finally officially confirmed the development of a mini version of the G-Class
After years of rumours, the German carmaker has officially confirmed: a compact version of the legendary SUV is in development. At the IAA Mobility 2025 Motor Show in Munich, Mercedes head Ola Källenius said that Mini G prototypes will soon hit the roads. In addition, a teaser of the novelty was shown.
Here's What We Know
Technical Director Markus Schäfer specified that for the model create their own architecture to preserve the true spirit of the G-Class. According to him, it will be a miniature frame with the original suspension. At the same time, most of the components, including body panels, are being developed anew. Even the door handles of the new SUV will not be the same as the older version.
According to Autocar, the new Mini G will be all-electric. This will be one of the key differences from the older G-Class, which is available with both an internal combustion engine and a battery-powered EQ version. Details about the powertrain Mercedes is not revealing yet.
In terms of design, the compact SUV will resemble its "big brother", but will get sharper lines and modern lighting technology. Chief designer Gorden Wagener stressed: it is impossible to change the look of the iconic model radically, we are talking about subtle touches - a different headlight graphic with the preservation of recognisable round elements.
Appearance of serial Mini G on the roads can be expected in about two years.
