AirPods Pro 3 case has a smaller battery capacity
Yesterday, Apple unveiled the AirPods Pro 3, and although the new product has improved battery life in music playback mode, the overall operating time is unexpectedly shorter than the previous model. According to official data, the AirPods Pro 3 headphones themselves can work continuously for up to 2 hours. But the charging case has lost weight - now it provides 24 hours of total music playback, while AirPods Pro 2 provided up to 30 hours.
The reason is probably the smaller battery in the case. Although its dimensions have hardly changed (they have increased by a few millimetres), its weight has decreased from 50.8 g to 44 g, which means that the heaviest element, the battery, has been reduced. Additionally, the AirPods Pro 3 case features a new U2 chip for more accurate positioning via Find My, which can consume more power or take up more space, forcing Apple to reduce the battery.
24 hours is still a very long time, even for very long journeys. But for some users (for example, travellers), an extra 6 hours of music can be an important factor.
