Windows 11 will get a built-in Internet speed checker right from the taskbar
Microsoft is working on a new feature for Windows 11 that will allow users to run a network speed test directly from the system tray - without any third-party apps or websites. This option is already available in the latest Windows 11 test builds for Dev and Beta Channel members.

The function is implemented as a new context menu item when you right-click on the network icon, as well as a button in the Wi-Fi Quick Settings panel. Both options open the built-in Bing tool to check the speed in the default browser. It is not yet known whether Microsoft plans to leave this implementation through the browser or add a separate system application for this in later builds.

This innovation will come in handy for quickly diagnosing network problems or checking whether the actual Internet speed matches the one declared by the provider. Previously, users had to go to websites like speedtest.net or use third-party apps to do this.
The feature has not yet been officially announced by Microsoft, so its public release is expected in the coming months.
