OpenAI is seriously concerned about protecting teenagers from possible negative effects from communicating with ChatGPT.

Unfortunately, tragic consequences from AI tips are no longer isolated, and the last straw was the suicide of a teenager in the US in spring 2025, after which OpenAI began to take measures to strengthen security.

Here's What We Know

OpenAI announced the launch of a system to determine the age of the user, and if it turns out to be a minor, the chatbot will go into "teen mode".

In it, the AI will not discuss controversial topics, especially anything that involves harm to health or life, and in the most severe cases, the company will contact the child's parents or pass the information to authorised authorities.

The head of OpenAI Sam Altman recognises that this decision is a compromise between privacy and security of users, but believes that for the protection of teenagers, some concessions must be made.

Additionally, it is noted that ChatGPT may require identification in some countries and individual cases.

For adult users nothing will change: ChatGPT will operate in the same mode and will be able to discuss any topic.
