European and electric only: Mitsubishi has unveiled the new Eclipse Cross
The new generation Eclipse Cross is an exclusively electric crossover for Europe. In fact, the model is a re-modelled Renault Scenic E-Tech with signature design elements of the Japanese brand. Production will start at the Renault plant in France, sales will start at the end of 2025.
Here's What We Know
The novelty is based on the platform CMF-EV (Ampr Medium), familiar from Renault Megane/Scenic E-Tech and Nissan Ariya. So far, only a version with one electric motor with an output of 218 hp (160 kW) and a battery of 87 kWh, providing a range of about 600 kilometres. Fast charging with up to 150 kW is supported. A more affordable 170 hp (125 kW) version with a 60 kWh battery will be available in 2026.
Unlike the first generation Eclipse Cross, which had a coupe-like silhouette, the new EV has become a more classic compact SUV: length - 4470 mm, wheelbase has grown to 2785 mm. The interior features a digital instrument cluster (12.3 inches), a vertical 12-inch multimedia screen with Google services, an electrochromic panoramic roof and a Harman Kardon audio system. The boot volume varies from 478 to 1,670 litres.
Externally, the crossover differs from Scenic by a redesigned front end with "two-tier" optics, muffled grille in the style of Outlander and original taillights. The model is available with 19 or 20-inch wheels.
Eclipse Cross EV will be positioned in the European range of Mitsubishi on a step below Outlander PHEV and will become the fourth "transformed" model of Renault after Colt (Clio), ASX (Captur) and Grandis (Symbioz). Thus, the Japanese brand has finally switched to a badge engineering strategy in Europe.
