Instead of the Ceed: Kia has announced the engines for the European version of the K4 hatchback
Kia K4 is produced in Mexico, where the sedan and hatchback are also assembled for the USA. But only the five-door version with other engines and transmissions will be brought to Europe.
Here's What We Know
The base engine for Europe will be a petrol turbo 1.0 T-GDI (115 hp), available with both a 6-speed manual transmission and a 7-speed DCT in the MHEV version. For comparison, in the USA, the entry-level K4 is equipped with a 2.0 litre engine with 150 hp and CVT transmission.
Next in the range, the European version has a turbo 1.6 T-GDI engine, offered in 150 and 180 hp versions (vs. 190 hp in the U.S.). Both are combined only with DCT. In 2026, a full-fledged hybrid will join the line-up.
Judging by the figures, K4 should be noticeably more spacious than its competitor - Volkswagen Golf. Wheelbase - 2720 mm (+100 mm to Golf Mk8.5), and the volume of the boot in versions without MHEV reaches 438 litres against 381 litres in VW. Hybrid "extra" reduces the boot to 328 litres.
The interior in expensive versions is decorated with Harman Kardon acoustics and panoramic display: digital dashboard (12.3″), separate climate unit (5.3″) and multimedia (12.3″). Base equipment includes wireless Apple CarPlay/Android Auto and a voice assistant with AI.
Pricing hasn't been announced yet, but we can assume that Kia will trim the Golf's price tag slightly.
