The first videos of Apple and journalists testing the new ultra-thin iPhone Air for bending resistance have appeared on social media. In one of the demonstrations, the phone was tested with a force of ≈ 130 lb (≈ 59-60 kg) on the centre of the case, and after the load was removed, it returned to a flat state, without any visible bending. In another test, a journalist tried to bend the Air himself - it bent slightly, but did not remain deformed.

How to explain the stability

The main "strength" of the phone is the frame made of Grade 5 titanium alloy. This is one of the key elements that allows the body to be thin, but not stable. The design also takes these features into account: the components (especially the battery) are positioned to reduce the risk of critical deformation when the case is bent. The "Ceramic Shield 2" glass has also shown outstanding resistance to bending.

Verdict.

Apparently, Apple somehow guessed that people would be afraid of this particular vulnerability and treated this aspect with responsibility, which is only to be commended. Tomorrow, the smartphone will go on sale and ordinary people will be able to conduct their own "research" on the case's stability, but there is a strong belief that Apple was ready for this. After all, the iPhone has had a lot of "gates" in its long history, but they were always unexpected problems. The problems that the company can foresee at the development stage, it eliminates at the development stage.
