Advertising in our lives is becoming more and more and Samsung has found a new way to get the word out to the consumer.

Here's What We Know

Angry complaints from owners of Samsung's premium refrigerators, which start at $1800, are spreading on the web. People report that after the latest update, when activating some design themes, the refrigerators began to display advertising materials on the screens.

Users are outraged by this, as they bought expensive appliances and reasonably believe that its cost is enough for the manufacturer not to bother them with adverts.

In a comment to the publication Android Authority representatives of Samsung confirmed this fact and so commented on the launch of advertising on the refrigerators of the Family Hub line:

Samsung is committed to innovation and enhancing everyday value for our home appliance customers. As part of our ongoing efforts to reinforce this value, we are piloting a programme to promote specially selected ads on certain models of Samsung Family Hub refrigerators in the US market [...] The ads will be displayed when the Family Hub screen is idle. The design format of the ads may vary depending on the personalisation settings of the Family Hub external screen, and the ads will not be displayed if photos from albums are playing on the display.

The situation is reminiscent of the famous second episode of the TV series Black Mirror, in which one of the characters was forced to open his eyes to finish watching the adverts.
