British intelligence agency MI6 has decided to "go online" and has launched a new portal on the darknet called Silent Courier. Through it, the intelligence service plans to attract potential informants - primarily in Russia, but also in other countries.

Here's How It Works

Silent Courier is accessed via the Tor browser, which provides anonymity. Users are encouraged to transmit sensitive data through a secure platform. MI6's YouTube channel has even released a video tutorial explaining how to use the service.

At the same time, MI6 warns that security is not only their concern. Potential agents are advised to connect via a trusted VPN and use devices that have no connection to their real identity. Even email accounts are advised to be new - without names, phone numbers or other personal information.

Context

The idea is not new: back in 2023, the head of MI6, Richard Moore, publicly appealed to Russians to share secrets. At the same time, the CIA launched a similar mechanism based on Tor. Now MI6 has gone further and made the "virtual door" more visible.

The launch of Silent Courier coincided with Moore's resignation as director. He will be succeeded by Blaise Metreweli, the first female head of MI6, who previously held the position of "Q" and oversaw technological innovation.

To enhance the effect, the launch was accompanied by a stylish promotional video: forests, deserts, a lone agent and a Silent Courier interface with the words "Transmit information" in Russian. Almost like a James Bond film, only this time it's for real.
