Porsche has officially announced a change in product strategy. The company will shift its focus from electric cars to models with internal combustion engines and hybrids. This was announced on Friday by the CEO of Porsche and Volkswagen Group Oliver Blume

Here's What We Know

The main change concerns the new flagship SUV, known internally as the K1. It was originally supposed to be purely electric, but will now debut with petrol and plug-in hybrid versions.

The future of the classic models has also been confirmed, with the Panamera and Cayenne retaining internal combustion engines and hybrid options until at least the 2030s. They are included in the brand's long-term renewal cycle.

At the same time, Porsche admitted that the withdrawal of part of the planned electric cars is delayed. It's not specified which models we're talking about, but probably projects like the Macan EV successor. The development of a new dedicated electric vehicle platform, which was supposed to be out by the 2030s, has been put on hold and will be redesigned in conjunction with other Volkswagen Group brands.

The reason for the change is the slowdown in demand for premium electric vehicles.

At the same time, key EV projects are continuing. The Cayenne EV (in standard and coupé versions) as well as a new electric sports car in the 718 segment will be released on time. In addition, Porsche has confirmed the launch of a new internal combustion engine SUV to replace the current Macan, which will be sold alongside the Macan EV.
