'Duties had nothing to do with it': Tim Cook excuses Trump and denies the impact of his economic policies on iPhone price hikes
After Donald Trump came to power and imposed high duties on goods from China, Vietnam and a number of other countries, many American companies have raised the cost of their gadgets.
Apple was no exception and raised the price of the iPhone 17 Pro by $100 compared to the 2024 flagship.
Here's What We Know
There is an obvious situation on the market: prices have risen, supply chains are broken, buyers are dissatisfied, and manufacturers are looking for a way out of a difficult situation. It's clear to everyone that Trump's economic policies have led to this, but Tim Cook disagrees.
While speaking to a CNBC reporter at the Apple shop on Fifth Avenue in New York City, the Apple CEO said:
Quite frankly, the duties have had no impact on prices.
Surprisingly, in an attempt to maintain Trump's favour, the corporate executive did not state that the tariffs were even benefiting them, as Russian propaganda claims in the context of Western sanctions.
It's a pity that Cook did not specify what led to the increase in iPhone prices, although, let's recall, at the end of the third quarter Apple indicated losses of $800 million, which were caused by unexpected costs associated with tariffs.
