'A masterpiece of psychological horror': critics thrilled with Silent Hill f
Only a couple of days are left before the release of Silent Hill f, which will move the events to Japan for the first time in the franchise's existence.
The change of setting made many Silent Hill fans wary of the novelty, but judging by the critics' reviews the game turned out to be excellent.
Here's What We Know
Many publications published their reviews, from which it became known that the new look at Silent Hill from Konami and NeoBards Entertainment studio refreshed the series and the quality is not inferior to the high level of Silent Hill Remake.
The new horror is praised for its interesting setting, gripping story, tense atmosphere, overall pacing, creepy monsters, modern graphics and preserving the spirit of the first Silent Hill instalments.
GameSpot's editors gave the game a 90 score and left the following comment:
Silent Hill f is not just a return to its roots, it's an impressive evolution; a visual spectacle, a masterpiece of psychological horror, an example of brilliant storytelling, and a new standard for the Silent Hill series.
That said, fans of classic survival horror games may be a little disappointed, as Silent Hill f was developed for a wider audience, so there is more action with an emphasis on close-quarters combat, and fewer puzzles and challenging moments.
Despite the large number of pluses, it is not without its negatives. Silent Hill f suffers from poor optimisation and low performance, because of which even on PS5 Pro the game sometimes slows down, and this is not related to FPS. The developers will probably fix this with patches, but first players should be prepared for such problems.
Overall, Silent Hill f received very high scores:
- Metacritic - 86 points;
- OpenCritic - 85 points with 80% recommendation.
Silent Hill f will be released on 25 September on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series.
