Qualcomm has officially announced the flagship Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 mobile platform, which will be the basis for the top Android smartphones of the end of 2025. The novelty will significantly improve performance, energy efficiency and computational capabilities of AI.

Here's What We Know

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 is built on TSMC's 3nm N3P process and uses an eight-core 2+6 layout. Two Prime supercores run at up to 4.61GHz, delivering a 20% boost in CPU performance and a 16% reduction in power consumption compared to the previous generation.

The on-board Adreno 840 GPU has been given a dedicated 18MB cache and clocked up to 1.2GHz to deliver a 23% increase in graphics performance and full support for Unreal Engine 5. The chip is capable of running two resource-intensive games simultaneously without FPS sags for an hour.

Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5
Snapdragon 8 Elite Gen 5 features an improved Hexagon NPU neural processor that is 37% faster than its predecessor. It supports running large language models locally on the device without connecting to the cloud. The chip also has support for the Advanced Professional Video (APV) codec, which competes with Apple's ProRes, and 20-bit ISP for extended dynamic range for photos and videos for the first time.

The platform has a Qualcomm X85 modem with support for 5G up to 12.5Gbps, and the FastConnect 7900 with Wi-Fi 7, Bluetooth 6.0 and UWB.
