In 2023, Konami released a remaster compilation of Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1. It received mixed reviews, but fulfilled the main task - it made the cult games compatible with all current platforms and gave gamers the opportunity to get acquainted with the legendary stealth action games without technical problems.

Immediately after its release there were rumours that the Japanese publisher will release a similar compilation with other parts of the series and, finally, there was an official confirmation.

Here's What We Know

On the regular Metal Gear Production Hotline show, franchise producer Noriaki Okamura confirmed that such a project is in development but has been "somewhat delayed".

All I can say for now is that the project is being made. The time will come and we will share the news..... I apologise for having to say the same thing again, but bear with me a little longer. I don't know how much longer this will take, but the project is moving forward and we're sure it will be a really interesting product in the end.

This is excellent news for MGS fans, as the release of such a compilation will put an end to the longstanding and pointless exclusivity of Metal Gear Solid 4: Guns of the Patriots, which was released in 2008 and is not available on any platform other than the PlayStation 3. Gamers have long asked Konami to release this game at least on PC, and in the end it will likely be released on all platforms.

As a reminder, Metal Gear Solid: Master Collection Vol. 1 included:

  • Metal Gear;
  • Metal Gear 2: Solid Snake;
  • Metal Gear Solid;
  • Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty (HD-version);
  • Metal Gear Solid 3: Snake Eater (HD version);
  • + various additional materials to them.

Logically, the second remaster compilation will consist of MGS 4, MGS 5, Metal Gear Solid: Peace Walker, and MGS V: Ground Zeroes (prologue to the fifth instalment).
