Samsung is actively patenting a new type of foldable smartphone — Galaxy Z Trifold. Unlike the usual "books" or "clamshells", this device will have three parts, allowing it to unfold into an ultra-wide display, similar to a tablet.

According to the patents, the device will have three separate batteries located in each of the three segments of the case. Moreover, their size varies in each segment. This approach will allow for efficient use of the internal space of each part. Additionally, this engineering solution will significantly increase the charging speed by charging all three parts in parallel. However, Samsung is not in a hurry to set battery records after the well-known case with the Note7, so it is unknown whether the company will fully utilize this opportunity. The patent information does not provide conclusions about either the battery capacity or charging speed.

It is also visible in the drawings that each part has a different thickness, although the difference is small and is unlikely to be felt in real life.

Rumors about the technical component of the Galaxy Trifold indicate a Snapdragon 8 Elite, up to 16 GB of RAM, a 200 MP main camera, a 12 MP ultra-wide-angle camera, and a 50 MP telephoto module with 5x optical zoom. The flexible AMOLED will likely have a 10-inch diagonal and will be narrower than the Galaxy Z Fold. Its ratio will be closer to tablets, which will positively impact the operation of applications and games.

Although Samsung has not yet announced an official launch date for the Galaxy Z Trifold, active patent activity suggests that the device could appear in the coming weeks. Along with the Galaxy Z Trifold, the release of a more affordable Z Fold SE is possible.
