Ubuntu 25.10 "Questing Quokka" has been released - what’s new

Today, October 9, 2025, Canonical released Ubuntu 25.10 codename "Questing Quokka". This release is the last before the LTS version of the system (Ubuntu 26.04), which will have an extended support period. The new version brings a number of updates and improvements, including an updated Linux kernel, fresh software versions, and enhanced data protection.
Main innovations in Ubuntu 25.10
- Linux kernel 6.17, which supports TPM keys, Nvidia Dynamic Boost, next-generation Intel GPUs, and Wi-Fi 7 network adapters.
- Updated GNOME 49 environment: Loupe replaced Eye of GNOME, and Ptyxis replaced GNOME Terminal. A new notification of available updates with a one-click installation button has been added.
- The new graphics stack Mesa 25.2 is expected to improve gaming performance and stability.
- Software updates - new versions of Firefox, LibreOffice, Thunderbird, etc.
- New tools for developers - GCC 15.2, GNU C Library 2.42, GNU Binutils 2.45, Python 3.13.7, LLVM 20, Boost 1.88, systemd 257.9, Rust 1.85, Go 1.24, OpenJDK 21 LTS, Zig 0.14.1, OpenSSL 3.5.3, BlueZ 5.83 13, PipeWire 1.4.7 and APT 3.1.
- Security enhancements - new protection measures, such as updated AppArmor and SELinux, have been included to enhance system security, improved support for encryption by default, Ubuntu Insights replaces Ubuntu Report for telemetry control.
Ubuntu 25.10 "Questing Quokka" is available for download from the official Ubuntu website. You can choose between the standard version for desktops, server version, or special editions like Kubuntu, Xubuntu, or Lubuntu, which use alternative desktop environments.
