Apple merges Health and Fitness teams within the Services division — Health+ launch coming soon
Apple is preparing for a major reorganization: teams responsible for health and fitness will be merged within the company's service division. This decision is related to the upcoming retirement of Chief Operating Officer Jeff Williams and the preparation for the launch of the new Health+ service.
What is Health+?
The new subscription service Health+ will include an AI-based assistant providing personalized recommendations on nutrition, sleep, and physical activity. Bloomberg notes that this is part of Apple's strategy to turn the wellness direction into a profitable business.
Other personnel changes:
Hardware and software design teams (Molly Anderson and Alan Dye) will now report directly to CEO Tim Cook. Craig Federighi, vice president of software development, will lead the watchOS direction. John Ternus, responsible for hardware engineering, will gain full control over the development of Apple Watch — previously handled by Williams.
These changes indicate that Apple intends to promote its services related to wearable gadgets more actively and increase their profitability. Closer interaction may also lead to the appearance of new features.
