After the official launch of the Xiaomi 17 series in China, the company is preparing to release the flagship Xiaomi 17 Ultra, which will primarily feature the best camera system. Although it was earlier reported that the device would appear in the first half of 2026, new leaks claim that mass production will begin by the end of 2025.

The main camera is rumored to be equipped with a large sensor supporting extended dynamic range, allowing for detailed shots even in challenging lighting conditions. The periscope module will also have a large sensor and a new optical system, which is likely to provide smooth optical zoom without quality loss. The other two sensors — wide-angle and telephoto — will be standard but with high resolution.

Interestingly, Xiaomi plans to release two versions of the Ultra model, but their cameras will not differ. The senior version is likely to get additional features for professional shooting, including a continuous optical zoom system, which works on a multi-lens periscope with a 200-megapixel sensor. This will avoid switching between cameras when changing the focal distance — the zoom will be smooth and seamless.

The likely sensors are a 50 MP OmniVision OV50X for the main camera, a 50 MP Samsung JN5 for the wide-angle and telephoto lenses, and a new 200 MP Samsung HPE for the periscope. The 200 MP sensor on the telephoto module will allow the manufacturer to achieve long continuous zoom using cropping. The front camera, according to preliminary data, will also be powerful — a 50-megapixel OmniVision OV50M.

If these characteristics are confirmed, the Xiaomi 17 Ultra could become one of the strongest camera phones on the market.
