Realme shared details about the partnership with Ricoh Imaging Company, Ltd. The first result of the collaboration will be the realme GT 8 Pro smartphone — it will have a camera co-designed with Ricoh engineers, using technologies from the legendary GR series. The smartphone will feature optics "developed according to Ricoh standards" and a bunch of software nonsense for clinical fans of the photo brand.

Optics according to Ricoh GR standards

The key element of the GT 8 Pro camera will be a super-transparent lens group developed according to Ricoh GR official standards. It provides high anti-reflective efficiency, improved resolution, and minimal distortion — for the cleanest and sharpest shots. Unfortunately, the presentation did not specify whether the smartphone will use optics from the same contractor as Ricoh or just use Ricoh’s wishes for the optics to be transparent and non-reflective.

Ricoh GR Mode

GT 8 Pro will feature a special Ricoh GR Mode shooting mode with a unique interface that mimics the experience of using GR cameras:

  • Signature GR IV shutter sound
  • Snap Mode — fixed focus for quick shots without spending time on autofocus
  • Viewfinder Mode — hides all settings on the viewfinder so nothing distracts from creating a masterpiece

Two focal lengths in full-frame equivalent are supported — 28 mm for spacious scenes and 40 mm to focus on the subject. Five signature Ricoh GR tones are available: Standard, Positive Film, Negative Film, Monotone, and High-Contrast BW. There is also a "Customized Tone" feature to create your own style.

Images from Realme GT 8 Pro will have GR-style watermarks, special albums with GR tags, and the ability to share tone presets between users. The global release is expected after the launch in China at the end of October, although the date has not yet been announced.
