Insider: iPhone 18 Pro will feature a variable aperture — a first in Apple history
Authoritative Chinese analyst and insider Ming-Chi Kuo shared new information about the camera of the upcoming iPhone 18 Pro flagship.
What is known
After studying Apple's supply chains, the expert concluded that the iPhone 18 Pro and Pro Max will have a variable aperture.
Variable aperture allows controlling the amount of light passing through the camera lens. The main cameras of all recent models, from iPhone 14 Pro to iPhone 17 Pro, use a fixed aperture of F/1.78, and the lens is always fully open and shoots at the widest aperture. If Ming-Chi Kuo is correct, users of the iPhone 18 Pro series will be able to manually adjust the aperture.
If Apple sticks to its gadget release schedule, the iPhone 18 series is expected to debut in September 2026.
