Group chats have appeared in the social network Threads
Meta has added group chats to Threads—its social network that competes with X. This update allows users to create private conversations with friends or communities without leaving the platform.
Group chats in Threads work similarly to Instagram Direct, but with text. Each chat can include up to 100 participants, and it is currently available only for the mobile version of the app. Messages do not have end-to-end encryption, but Meta promises to gradually improve security.
This update is part of Meta's broader strategy to transform Threads into a full-fledged communication platform, not just a feed of public posts. The company is also testing themes, friend lists, and an improved recommendation system.
Group chats are already available in the USA, UK, Canada, and Australia, with a global rollout expected in the coming weeks.
