Dongfeng Honda launched a lifetime powertrain warranty in China
Dongfeng Honda has launched a new extended warranty program called “Lifetime Companion” for private individuals in China, with no time limit, covering the powertrain and transmission. If the car is transferred to a second or subsequent owner, or used for commercial purposes (such as ride-sharing or rental), the warranty automatically terminates.
What's Known
According to the “Lifetime Powertrain Warranty List” on the manufacturer's website, this after-sales service program focuses on key powertrain components. They are divided into three categories:
Engine system: including main mechanical components such as the cylinder block, cylinder head, pistons, connecting rods, crankshaft, camshaft, valves, timing chain or belt, oil pump, water pump, etc. Excluded are the air and oil filter and other consumables;
Transmission system: mechanical/automatic transmission case, gear set, shift mechanism, hydraulic control unit (TCU), etc., as well as the electronic clutch and power distribution unit for hybrid models.
Components of hybrid vehicles with the i-MMD system (e.g., CR-V Hybrid and Elysion Hybrid). Additional protection is provided for the battery, traction motor, and motor controller. There are no age and mileage limits, only regular inspection is required as per regulations.
Exclusions include “man-made damages”, “non-compliance with maintenance requirements”, and “faults after an accident”. For instance, if the owner does not conduct regular maintenance at an authorized Dongfeng Honda service center or uses non-original engine oil, they cannot take advantage of the warranty service.
The “Lifetime Companion” program is already available for new Honda CR-V buyers. For other clients, the company has made it possible to purchase the service for an additional fee or obtain it under the two-year extended warranty through official dealers.
