Yesterday — October 21 — an event took place, which many gamers did not hope to see — Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2 was released, which is the sequel to the cult 2004 role-playing game.

The story of this game turned out to be so complicated that many experts and players thought it would be canceled, because after Bloodlines 2 was announced in 2019, it was postponed four times, its concept was rewritten several times, and in 2023 the development was transferred to the British studio The Chinese Room, where it practically started anew.

If anyone doesn’t know what the phrase “production hell” means, the story of Bloodlines 2 is a clear illustration. Such drawn-out projects rarely turn out to be successful and, unfortunately, Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2 confirmed this completely.

What is known

The vampires couldn't withstand the production hell: the role-playing game Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2 disappointed critics and their reviews already made it clear that there were big problems with the Vampires. Now that the action RPG has been released, gamers have started to actively share their opinions, which, alas, are even less optimistic than those of the critics.

Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2 has only 56% positive reviews on Steam.

It's hard to highlight a truly successful element of the sequel: some praise the atmosphere of Seattle, the structure of the vampire community, and some gamers note the spectacle of the combat system, while mentioning that it is extremely simple and does not require deep understanding of mechanics.

The technical execution is also ambiguous: some have no problems with Bloodlines 2, while for others the game does not even start.

The authors of the most critical reviews state that the game has nothing to do with Vampire: The Masquerade and cannot be called its sequel.

In short, Vampire: The Masquerade — Bloodlines 2 turned out to be a mediocre game that will soon be forgotten.
