Tesla discreetly removed mentions of key cards from manuals for new owners, indicating the end of the free accessory. This is likely done to reduce the company's costs.
What changed
Buyers of new Tesla cars receive a small credit card-sized device that serves as a key. In addition, Tesla door locks can be opened and locked through the mobile app, although the doors still need to be opened by hand. It seems that the free physical accessory is no longer included.
However, cards can still be purchased in the Tesla store for $40. Otherwise, you will have to rely entirely on the mobile app and monitor your smartphone's battery level.
